The National Universities Commission, NUC, has eliminated Mass Communication Degree in Nigeria establishments.
With the improvement, there will be not any more Mass Communication as a degree program in colleges in Nigeria.
The NUC said it has unbundled Mass Communication into seven separate degree projects to satisfy present need and this produces results from 2020 inductions into Nigerian colleges.
In a talk with writers in Abuja on Thursday, NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, said Mass Communication has been unbundled into Media Studies, Public Relations Studies, Cinematography, among others.
The seven new Programs/Departments, to be domiciled in a Faculty/School/College of Communication and Media Studies are Journalism and Media Studies, Public Relations, Advertising, Broadcasting, Film and Multi-Media Studies, Development Communication Studies, Information and Media Studies.
